Moldova should provide detailed information regarding all the issues raised during the Universal Periodic Review until the adoption of the Final Report on the 14th of October

Geneva, 13 Octombrie 2011 — Republic of Moldova, which was presenting its National Report on the 12th of October, should provide more detailed information and also respond to the questions that were raised during the Universal Periodic Review. Topics like discrimination, especially of LGBT and religious minorities were not enough covered in the answers of the Moldovan delegation. Specifically, it is important to clarify the situation regarding the violations of the freedom of assembly of the LGBT community, cases regarding religious minorities and antisemitism particularly. The majority of states underlined the importance of the unconditioned adoption of the Law on preventing and combating discrimination. Geneva, 13 Octombrie 2011 — Republic of Moldova, which was presenting its National Report on the 12th of October, should provide more detailed information and also respond to the questions that were raised during the Universal Periodic Review. Topics like discrimination, especially of LGBT and religious minorities were not enough covered in the answers of the Moldovan delegation. Specifically, it is important to clarify the situation regarding the violations of the freedom of assembly of the LGBT community, cases regarding religious minorities and antisemitism particularly. The majority of states underlined the importance of the unconditioned adoption of the Law on preventing and combating discrimination. This law should mandatory cover the sexual orientation ground in order to ensure the protection from discrimination of all the persons living on the territory of Republic of Moldova.

It is also essential for the Government of Moldova to give more details regarding the human rights education and the promotion of tolerance and diversity in the society.

The Moldovan Government should prove its human rights commitment not only on the declarative level, but also on the practical one.

We encourage and request the Moldovan delegation to respond to the issues mentioned above before the adoption of the Final Report of Moldova, on the Friday, 14th of October.
