HBO Production a achizitionat drepturile pentru intreaga serie „A Song of Ice and Fire in 2007. Primul sezon „Game of Thrones” a inceput pe 17 aprilie 2011 se bazeaza pe primul roman al seriei. La doua zile de la premiera, episoadele au primit critici pozitive si au inregistrat o audienta de 4.2 milioane pentru primele trei difuzari, iar HBO a comandat deja a doua serie ce va fi difuzata in prima parte a anului viitor.
